The Gupta Empire
For 490 years following the fall of the Mauryan Empire, the Indian people would remain under the rule of small city-states. Then in A.D. 310 a new leader emerged who would begin again to unify India. This leader’s name was Chandragupta. Chandragupta setup his capital in the old Kingdom of Magadha.
Under the rule of Chandragupta, and his descendants, the people of the Gupta Empire flourished. During this time period great advances in art and science were made. For this reason, many historians refer to this time period as the golden era of Indian history.
