The Gupta Empire Declines
After the death of one of their greatest kings, Chandragupta II, the Gupta Empire began to fall apart. New leaders were not as effective in ruling the government. As the government became weaker, invaders from the northwest were able to weaken and ultimately destroy the empire.
By 600 A.D., the Gupta Empire was no more. The region was once again made up of a collection of many different city-states. However, even though the Gupta Empire was gone, the Gupta culture remained. Much of modern Indian culture was first established by the Guptans.
