Islamic traditions state that Muhammad received the first revelations of his new faith in the ninth month of the Islamic year. This month is called Ramadan. During the month of Ramadan, Muslims practice fasting.
This fast begins in the morning at sunrise and ends at sunset. Between sunrise and sunset Muslims do not eat or drink anything. The setting of the Sun is announced in each city or town by the shooting of a cannon. Following this cannon blast, Muslims stream into the streets, where they eat and socialize with one another.
We ought to be careful not to do for a fellow what we only intended to help him do.
