Before 1912 you could enjoy all kinds of great things invented and available in the life of a kid in 1912. Some of those included Coca-Cola and Pepsi at the soda fountain, donuts, electricity to light the lights that helped you with your homework, photography, matches (please don’t play with those), typewriters, anesthesia at the dentist, safety pins, dish washers, steam engines, washing machines, elevators, bicycles, mail order catalogs, telephones, phonographs, toilet paper, metal detectors, seismographs (hey, what’s shakin’), drinking straws, escalators, motion pictures and many, many other interesting and useful inventions and devices that made life by 1912 very interesting.

There were many great ideas and inventions still to come after 1912. If you were waiting for the Internet in 1912, you only had to wait about 76 years for the world wide web and 86 years before Google opened its first office in 1998.

A kid in 1912 did have something fun to look forward to for entertainment in the not too distant future: Radio. By the end of the 1920’s and into the 1930’s it was the golden age of radio with millions of people listening every night to their favorite programs. In 1938 millions listened in as aliens landed to take over the world, at least according to Orson Welles and his Mercury Broadcasting team.

Not everything exciting was yet to be invented after 1912. Kids could already enjoy one of the greatest inventions known to children from around the world: Crayons. Crayola brand crayons were introduced to the world in 1903 and childhood has been so much brighter and colorful even since, wouldn’t you agree?
